1000 Mile Summer
So a few of you, but not all, will be aware of my goal to cycle 1000 miles over this ‘Summer’ on my fixed wheel bike.
100 miles a week being the average I am aiming to achieve and so far I am not doing to badly. Tracking my miles (not including any commutes) is the iPhone app, ‘Strava’. It has a lovely clean user interface and is simple to use. The online site doesn’t make you recoil in horror either, although the detail which the ‘gear’ can be added is far to much for myself. Luckily you do not need to fill out the full form. It also has has a nice few features which may people may appreciate, the option to monitor your heart rate and power output with external devices, and for the competitive side of you, a list of the top times posted on your route by others which rip up the same tarmac as you. I find this often leads to mentally pushing harder to try slip into a higher position and beat personal bests!
So in addition to the Strava app, I have added a front brake to my bike, (DiaTech Dirt Harry lever and Tektro calliper), This mainly is for safety, with my Hold Fast retention straps and Wellgo magnesium platforms being replaced with Look Keo pedals and an unexplainably comfy pair of Louis Garneau road shoes with o degree cleats.

Addison Lee is the anti-bike!
As many of you are aware, the chairman of Addison Lee Cab services in London, John Griffin, has voiced his opinion on cyclists and it has gone down like a brick! Combined with his support of taxi drivers illegally using bus and cycle lanes, he has become a trending topic on Twitter and inspired an e-petition to remove the companies operating license.
Please get involved and sign the petition here!
For more detailed information and the responses of various people, from politicians to everyday folk, have a look at these – The Times, The Guardian and Road CC.
